Puerto Rico unwritten rules
The unwritten rules are rules or customs that we as citizens continue even if not written as if they were laws. They are rules imposed by society to maintain order, tranquility and peace. In our Puerto Rican culture these unwritten rules are given daily, in every home, school or place. People are carried that responsability because they are citizens who like to help and respect.
As Puerto Ricans we like to go to party. A few days ago a friend of my was at a birthday. When he arrived he don't bring a gift for the person's birthday. This is an example of one of these rules, everytime we are invited to a birthday, anniversary, baby shower, wedding or something else is important to bring a gift without asking. If you do not carry a gift people star to critizing, look at you weird or just not invite you again.
Puerto Ricans like to eat, but right now things are not very good in the economy and many households are spending needs. Everyone at some point in our lives had a neighbor who ran out of rice, salt anything. It's like a rule for us to help our neighbors and give them what they need. The majority of Puerto Ricans like to help and cooperate, I say it's part of our culture, we are helpful people.
Most Puerto Ricans are rather friendly and sociable. We are people of family and many friends and when something bad happens to them and their go to the hospital is a rule go to visit them. People go and visit them and bring them flowers, cards, balloons or stuffed animals with the hope that person can recover and leave the hospital soon. I even know of people who go to hospitals and visit the sick but do not know to help them or pray for them. It's something that comes from the heart and our goodness.
In our country there are people grateful but others are not. It's a super important rule, saying thanks is something that we are taught from a young age. It teaches us to say thank you when someone helps us, makes us a favor or performing any other time. When someone don't give thanks it looks like a lack of respect for people. Recently there was a case of a woman who received a gift, she never gives the thanks and she make a very ugly commentaries about the gifts. People began to criticize and speak of her since she had failed in that rule, giving thanks.
These rules have been presented in each example are things we usually do. If you do not follow these rules are frowned upon by society. These are like costums that people have. If a person violates see it as weird and unrespectful. These rules are already in our lives automatically.
